Rising institutional demand for assets offering contractual income, especially of the inflation-linked variety, has been a boon for the funding of UK infrastructure projects. But what does this mean for risk-adjusted returns?

How should investors categorise infrastructure assets and what investment frameworks are needed? Over dinner, we will address the following questions:

What are the current and expected supply/demand dynamics for UK infrastructure equity and debt investment; are there sufficient origination opportunities to meet demand, are there specific infrastructure sectors that are likely to be in greater demand / supply over others?
How are the unique needs of insurers – for example, the need for matching premium eligible assets – impacting returns and is this creating opportunities for less-constrained investors such as pension funds?
The uncertainty of Brexit and its impact on UK infrastructure valuations in the equity and debt space, for both domestic and overseas investors.
Can infrastructure compete with other asset classes in a rising rate environment?

Sundeep Vyas Deputy Chief Investment Officer for Infrastructure Europe, Alternatives and Real Assets
Sundeep Vyas joined DWS in 2005 with 7 years of industry experience. Prior to joining, Sundeep worked for Citigroup Investment Banking's Infrastructure advisory team. Previously, he served as a senior ratings analyst for Standard & Poor's and as Deputy Manager for EXIM Bank of India.
Sundeep holds a BE in Civil Engineering from the University of Delhi, has a Post-Graduate Degree in Management & Finance from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
Hamish Mackenzie ACA, Managing Director, Head of Infrastructure
Hamish Mackenzie joined DWS in 2000 with 9 years of industry experience. Prior to his current role, Hamish was responsible for establishing the European Infrastructure equity business as well as directing the investment activity from its inception. Before that, he was a specialist for the transport sector in the Corporate and Investment Banking division of Deutsche Bank. He also worked as an M&A banker at HSBC and began his career at Deloitte & Touche
Hamish holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Bristol University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant in England & Wales
