Rising institutional demand for assets offering contractual income, especially of the inflation-linked variety, has been a boon for the funding of UK infrastructure projects. But what does this mean for risk-adjusted returns? How should investors categorise infrastructure assets and what investment frameworks are needed? Over dinner, we will address the following questions:
- What are the current and expected supply/demand dynamics for UK infrastructure equity and debt investment; are there sufficient origination opportunities to meet demand, are there specific infrastructure sectors that are likely to be in greater demand / supply over others?
- How are the unique needs of insurers – for example, the need for matching premium eligible assets – impacting returns and is this creating opportunities for less-constrained investors such as pension funds?
- The uncertainty of Brexit and its impact on UK infrastructure valuations in the equity and debt space, for both domestic and overseas investors.
- Can infrastructure compete with other asset classes in a rising rate environment?
