Barnett Waddingham has appointed Craig Turnbull as a partner in its insurance and longevity team as part of the company’s strategy to expand its insurance expertise.
Turnbull’s appointment means the insurance and longevity team now has 47 members.
Scott Eason, head of insurance at the consultancy, said: “We have seen significant recent growth in both team numbers and client base for BW’s Insurance & Longevity Consulting team. Craig’s arrival is part of ambitious plans to continue to grow this team to meet increased client demand as insurers recognise the quality of service and advice that they get from BW.”
Turnbull, who started his new role on Monday, will lead advisory services to life groups on the regulatory-driven aspects of their investment, risk and capital operations.
He described joining BW as a “great opportunity” to have a real impact on the insurance industry, adding: “I want to continue to apply my thought leadership for the good of the insurance sector, and I believe BW is the best place for me to do this."
Turnbull has more than 20 years of experience in a number of insurance areas, namely investment strategy, economic and financial modelling, risk management and solvency capital assessment.
He joined from the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority, where he was a senior technical specialist in the insurance directorate.
The consultancy praised Turnbull for his familiarity with the regulatory solvency framework for UK insurers and the treatment of investment strategies.
Eason said: “Craig’s knowledge of economic modelling and regulatory requirements will be invaluable to our client base. His expertise dovetails perfectly with and strengthens our existing bulk purchase annuity advisory team, who already provide our clients with quality advice and support in pricing, modelling, investments and longevity.”
Turnbull’s appointment follows the consultancy’s decision to promote nine people to equity partners for pensions and investments this month.
